Mining used to add ore straight to the inventory. Now each hit drops a real piece of copper ore beside the rock, and the final hit leaves two to four stones. Tapping E picks up the item being aimed at. Holding E gathers visible items nearby at a steady pace, and the pickaxe stays in hand throughout.
With a full pack, items stay on the ground instead of disappearing, and saving and reloading brings back whatever is still lying there. When two connected test clients went for the same piece at the same moment, exactly one of them got it.
The first dedicated-server test passed every gameplay check and still failed overall. Clients kept a rock’s collision after the server had removed the rock, so they kept bumping into something that no longer existed, which caused 153 movement corrections against a limit of 30. Updating the rock from the server’s latest state brought that down to 6.
All of this was tested automatically on one machine. How it feels to real players over a real network has not been judged yet.
