Crafting arrived on September 14 as data, with the server deciding every craft. It was the first time gathering led to making something: fell a tree, collect four wood, split it into sticks. Each craft is a single inventory change, so a craft that fails costs nothing. The crafting tab also lists rows that cannot be made yet, with the reason, such as needing a campfire.
Installing it at first stopped every generated world from starting, with no reason shown. Failures like that now name the feature that refused and say why.
Building the screen revealed that opening the pack paused a single-player world, and a paused world refused everything, even changing clothes. The pack no longer pauses the world, which is also how a shared world has to behave; the pause menu still pauses. That change then left anyone who opened the pack from the pause menu on a frozen screen, which was fixed the same day.
And a placeholder cooking recipe had been turning raw meat into raw meat: 45 seconds at a fire for nothing, unnoticed because the inventory did technically change. It now makes cooked meat, and any recipe that returns its own inputs is rejected when it loads. Only splitting wood is proven completable from gathered materials so far; torches, rope and cooking cannot be made in normal play yet.
